Brigadier : KUL Games 2003 Review

The 1st Kuala Lumpur Boys' Brigade Company never set out to organize the 2003 KUL Games to win it, despite what some might say or think. Even before the Games loomed near, I personally wrote an article to rally fellowship, friendship and camaraderie among our friends in the KL State.

In some ways, we managed to achieve that. Some of us got to know other people better, some of us exchanged handshakes, some of us had kind words for others and many of us I’m sure, had fun together. I will admit that at times things got boiled over on the pitch and the courts (and off it) but no matter who was right or wrong, every sportsman/sportswoman will tell you that it ends with a handshake at the end. If it doesn’t, what difference are we to Arsenal?

The 1st Kuala Lumpur Boys' Brigade Company sincerely hopes that you enjoyed yourself during the Games. We will admit as much that there were things that could have been better and in an ideal world, we wished it was. But we do not live in one, and we all make mistakes. A sincere apology is all we can offer and if the moans and groans were sincere, I’m sure that will suffice.

To all the Boys and Girls who were at the Games, I urge you to value the importance of the community of the Boys’ Brigade. The world of the BB does not revolve around the grounds of your company alone. We are a worldwide youth organisation, the oldest in the world. Friendship and fellowship should be the values that keep us together. After all, you will be the people in the white shirts with the collar pins tomorrow.
