1st Kuala Lumpur Boys' Brigade History

The 1st Kuala Lumpur Boys' Brigade Company is a company filled with history and tradition. The tried and trusted traditions of the Brigade has been carried down by generations for over 50 year. Today, the Company's flag flies proudly under yet another faithful generation of servants, striving to spread God's word through the ministry of the Brigade.

Founded in 1954 by Mr. Khoo Oon Soo the 1st KL Company is under the sponsorship of Wesley Methodist Church, Kuala Lumpur. The church plays an important role in the Brigade, providing physical, financial and more importantly, spiritual support to our ministry. With a membership of about 200 boys, aged from 5 to 19 years old, the Company is grateful for the support from the Church, for it is no small task.

Serving these Boys are 20 committed officers who are all volunteers, sacrificing their time every Saturday for the love of nurturing these young boys. One of our core programmes is the band which was formed way back in 1956. It was then the pioneer BB Band in Malaya and was only a flute and bugle band. Since then our band has progressed into a Brass Band. It was a brave step forward and we have never looked back.

Ever since its formation, our Band has become an important part of 1st KL Company. It has performed in numerous functions, invitations from either the private or public sectors. Hence, through the years, thousands of boys have come and gone and most of them have had a chance to learn at least one band instrument. We are proud to educate these boys on the finer points in life, continuing to build the band as more and more boys seek to feed their curiosity in music. As we continue to strive towards greater heights in this ministry with high spirits and enthusiasm, we realize the need to appeal to today's youths . New and exciting programmes such as abseiling and archery have been added in the past. Today, the Company continues to explore other avenues and activities which will cater to the Brigade's training and appeal to the Boys.

Boys come and go, but the 1st Kuala Lumpur Boys' Brigade will forever strive to teach Boys that the word boy should be spelled with a capital 'B'. Home
