Brigadier : KUL Games 2003 Review

Now that everything is lost and won…

Finally the dust has settled, the grounds have returned to their natural tranquil state. The cheers are long gone, the grunts sentenced to silence and memory, the hype subsided into a sense of closure. It’s over.

What began with so much excitement, preparation, toil, sweat and countless hours of labour is now no more than just a closed chapter in the big book of the Boys’ Brigade in Malaysia, or perhaps just the KL State.

From a perspective of a 1st KL Officer, I am glad that the KUL Games of 2003 took place. After all, it had seemed that if we did not do it, perhaps no one would want to and the Games would somehow die a slow death.

And so we place our heads on the line and went forward. The work was not easy I assure you. Planning an overnight event with the comforts and satisfaction of over 200 boys, girls and officers to please was no monkey’s business. Alas it proved not to be.

Now that everything has been lost and won, personally, I will tell you that the Games never revolved around the two conflicting emotions. Many will call me a 1st KL ‘purist’ and in many ways I am (and proud to be). But I will vouch that the satisfaction I got after the Games was not about the trophy, the goals or the cheers.
