Brigadier : News from Oklahoma State University USA

I brought a stack of cards people sent me as well-wishes for my farewell and birthday just before I left and pinned it on the board in front of my desk. I also had a metal cross to remind myself of my faith and not to run from it. Those were the only things that could make me feel more at home but sometimes it turns out to remind me again how far I was from home. The numerous e-mails I sent and received from my closest acquaintances didn’t help much. At the very least, I was reminded of the many people who had the best interest of my well-being and care for me back home. Oh well if I could write all about my mixed feelings and what I have gone through the past 15 days I have been here, this would be a novel. But that is not the reason I’m writing this in the first place.

I was never prepared to leave home to such a far place for so long. I had a lot of uncertainties I could not face with my own strength. I admit that I was at lost, thinking why has circumstances been like this for me and I had to do this on my own.

But almost exactly a month before my departure I heard a Pastor speak and I believe it was God using him to make me learn the most important thing for me now and for the rest of my time here. It motivated me to go forward and provided me strength to face whatever I had in the last 15 days and will in the next 2 years.

The lesson: to turn circumstances into God’s appointment.

I learnt that all of us have different circumstances and it was carefully planned by God Himself, unique for every individual to equip us with His strength and wisdom we need. With that in mind, I look forward to each day in whatever circumstance knowing there’s something in store for me through His marvelous ways.
