Brigadier : Who Knows Best?

Just a few months ago a friend of mine was hospitalized for a very strange disease that I don’t understand. We gathered in groups to pray for his healing. We prayed by his bedside in the hospital. We prayed for a miracle to happen. A few days later, he died. None of us understood why our prayers were not answered. There were more questions than answers. As we cried together, slowly accepting the bitter pain of losing our friend, we felt God has forsaken us.

It was then He made me realize through His wondrous ways that I did not believe in Him enough. Realizing that, I felt lighter, happier and comforted. I realized God knows what is best for my friend in taking his life on earth to be with Him eternally.

So the next time I pray, I will not pray for miracles to happen. I will not pray for my selfish desires to be granted. But when I pray, I will surrender my whole self to God and allow Him to work in my life in whatever way He thinks best because I trust in Him.

That’s what the prayer of serenity is all about. We know what is best for our lives, but God knows better.
