Brigadier : People Down The Streets...
 | People Down the Streets... | |
I live in a simple, terraced housing area and I like the way it is – I get to know a lot of neighbors who can help each other in times of need and, at the same time, there is enough privacy at home. The neighbor on my left runs a typical Chinese coffee shop nearby, where my family has become regular customers of their local delicacies and tea. They run the coffee shop together as a family, each member taking turns working and resting at home everyday from 5:00 am until midnight. Every morning, the 68-year-old man of the family would be the earliest to rise and head to the coffee shop. He would clean the whole shop, start boiling water and make all the necessary preparations for a typical business day. The other vendors and family members would come later. One day, as he was carrying about his usual morning routine at the coffee shop, five men approached him. Their intentions were clearly made known: they were robbers. Nobody, except the old man himself, knew exactly what happened after that. Very unfortunately, the old man was beaten many times with a metal rod and was stabbed – IN THE HEAD!
The incident resulted the man suffering major complications. He underwent two reconstructive surgeries to his skull and he is now half paralyzed, though he is on the road to a full recovery.
Right after the incident, the old man struggled for the phone to call home. Meanwhile, a vendor in the coffee shop who just arrived saw the old man in pain and immediately rushed to inform the family at their home. I was totally amazed when his family members told me, a few days after the incident, what he did after he called home. With the intense pain and blood all over his head and shoulders, the old man still scrambled to switch off the gas and the running water hose. He cleaned himself up before getting into the car rushing him to the hospital, not wanting to make it dirty.
