Brigadier : KUL Games 2003 – Playing Hosts?

1st Kuala Lumpur Football Team 2001
The last time KUL Games was ever held, the famous YMCA grounds on the busy streets of Brickfields were transformed into a mini-battle ground. Blood, sweat and tears… and in the end, there was room for only one champion. The rightful keepers of the trophy. The last man standing. The Champions.

B.I.G D.E.A.L.

I have the two gold medals from the previous games on my rack, collecting dust, looking more brown than gold now, while the Nike backpack we won in ‘99 was given away to a charity a few months back. Past glories. How we just love to relive them. Ask the Liverpool fans!

Sadly, that could well be the downfall of our Company too.

Champions again?

1st KL is without a doubt a Company rich in glory and tradition. Stories of how ‘people feared 1st KL’ in long-gone Pesta’s still ring clearly in my mind. The tales of how we beat them flat, the look of fear in our opponent’s eyes every time we took the field. The stories made me feel that it was as if we had the divine right to win.

In so many ways, that is the difference in our Company. We believe we can win and as many have stressed, we had better win. Second place is not in our vocabulary; defeat is under no circumstance acceptable. It is as if losers bring shame to the Company. We only have place on this ship for winners.
